Coterie How to install

Getting started · b 0.1.3

A few steps.
A whole team.

Install Coterie on Windows, connect the coding agents you already use, and start your first project.

Windows 10 / 1164-bitNo sign-up to download

01 · Get ready

Bring your tools.
We bring them together.

You need Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), git, and at least one supported coding CLI installed and signed in. Provider subscriptions and usage are separate.

Your starting kit

  • Git for WindowsFor repositories and working copies.
  • Claude Code, Codex or AntigravityAt least one is enough to start.
  • A project of your ownUse a small test repository for your first beta run.

02 · Download & install

Windows may ask.
Here’s what it means.

Coterie is new. For now, the beta installer is unsigned to keep development costs down. This is a temporary limitation of the early beta, and Windows may not yet recognize each new release.

SmartScreen

“Windows protected your PC”

If you downloaded Coterie from this official site and decide to continue, choose More info, then Run anyway, when those options are available.

  1. 1More info
  2. 2Run anyway

These are labels in the Windows prompt, not buttons on this page. “Unknown publisher” is expected for this unsigned beta.

Smart App Control · Windows 11

No “Run anyway” button?

That can be a different protection. Smart App Control can block an unsigned app outright and does not offer an exception for one app.

Some managed PCs also prevent continuing past SmartScreen. If Windows does not offer a way to proceed, stop here: this beta may not run under your device’s current policy.

You do not need to switch off Defender or your PC’s protections to follow this guide. Read Microsoft’s explanation

Already past the Windows prompt? Follow the installer, then open Coterie from the Start menu. Only continue with files downloaded from this site.

03 · Make it yours

Your first launch, at your pace.

01

Choose your workspace

Pick a language, appearance and level of detail. The welcome guide walks you through the rest.

02

Connect your agents

Coterie detects the supported CLIs on your PC. Complete their own installation and sign-in if needed.

03

Start small

Open a test repository, describe a small goal and check the proposed plan before starting work.

A little context

Before you ask.

Will the Windows warning disappear after more downloads?

It may. SmartScreen builds reputation from download history and other signals, including whether the file is signed. Microsoft does not publish a guaranteed download threshold or timetable. An unsigned update must build reputation again for its new file.

How Microsoft describes file reputation

Why isn’t this beta signed yet?

For the moment, we are keeping early development costs down rather than paying for a Windows code-signing certificate. This is a temporary beta limitation, not a subscription you need to buy. We will keep this guide up to date as distribution changes.

What if I already have Coterie?

Use the update notice in the app when a new version is available. You can update from earlier betas and keep your projects and settings.

Do I need all three coding agents?

No. One supported CLI is enough to start. You can connect more later. Their subscriptions and usage limits remain separate from Coterie.
